Giving Tuesday is an international giving day. It was begun in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y in New York and today has many supporters including the Gates Foundation. (learn more).
Valley Gives does not run and is not officially connected to Giving Tuesday. We are a cheerleader, providing support and awareness locally, so that Pioneer Valley organizations can maximize their fundraising on this day.
Giving Platform for Donations
Unlike Valley Gives, there is no common platform that is used. Rather Giving Tuesday is a promotional event that leverages focus of the day, the support of many influential people and organizations, and the involvement of thousands of nonprofits around the world. Organizations in the Pioneer Valley should either use their regular online giving platform (such as Paypal, Network for Good, GiveGab, etc) to promote themselves and to manage donations on Giving Tuesday (a list of possible platforms can be found here). If there are fees associated with managing donations, these are determined by the platform your organization is using.
Having Your Organization Found by Donors
In addition to any proactive outreach your organization may conduct, the Giving Tuesday website provides a search function so that donors can find specific organizations. One can search by city/town and state. We suggest that donors in the Pioneer Valley be encouraged to use this search.
What the Community Foundation is Doing
Valley Gives, as the prominent online fundraising effort in the Pioneer Valley, will be conducting an awareness raising campaign to help support local organizations that are participating in Giving Tuesday. This has several components – digital advertising and prizes.
- Digital advertising – Valley Gives will be paying for digital ads throughout the Pioneer Valley promoting Giving Tuesday and suggesting that people visit the search page to find a local organization participating in Giving Tuesday.
- Prizes – Valley Gives will be offering prizes to organizations and donors that use the hashtag #ValleyGivingTuesday to promote the day and spread the word. More info on prizes.
